Ivory beads are special materials that you have the option of using for your beaded projects. Ivory is a type of material that is made from mammal’s teeth. However, the material is generally taken from the tusks of elephants. The jewelry that is made with this material is usually extremely delicate, and can easily get damaged if it is not taken care of properly.

Cleaning your ivory beads is easy to do. But, in order to clean the beads correctly you will need to concentrate on your task and plan out how you are going to execute it. Carelessness can lead to you breaking your beads during the cleaning process.

1. Pour some warm water into a bowl. Add some soap into the same bowl. You will need to dip a soft cloth into the soap and water mixture that will be used to scrub any impurities off of your ivory beads.

2. Once your beads are completely cleaned off, you will need to dry them immediately, using a small hand or dish towel for the drying process. Make sure that you also dry off any clips or chains that have been put into place to hold the ivory beads together. Leaving any part of the beads, including their chains wet can ruin the delicate ivory materials that they are made from.

3. Once the beads are clean and dry, grab out a little bit of Vaseline. You will want to apply a small amount of Vaseline to your finger, and then rub it over the jewelry. Applying Vaseline to ivory will help keep your beads shiny. Vaseline can also ensure that the ivory materials do not dry out.

When washing your ivory beads, you should never allow them to soak in the water and soap mixture that you make. Soaking ivory can cause the material to become brittle and break off.
